THE REVIEW

The Pere Ubu are one of the greatest bands of the 70s. Their story began in Cleveland in the mid-70s when they recorded a series of singles, including Final Solution, whose lyrics "I don't need a cure need a final solution" fully represented man's fears in post-industrial society.
In 1978 they released The Modern Dance, destined to remain their masterpiece and one of the heights of rock. The album opens with the hiss of Non-alignment pact and then explodes into a compelling rock dance. It's precisely the theme of modern dance that repeats in the title track, developing amidst the clamors of people and the industrial noises of machines. Laughing, on the other hand, is a dualism between free-jazz moments and sudden
sonic explosions, while Street Waves marks a return to rock. Chinese radiation, opened by an arpeggio and Thomas's subdued voice, is suddenly interrupted by the roar of a crowd, only to resume in a compelling rhythm.

Naturally, there is also room for their interpretation of a lightning-fast punk Life stinks, a mechanical funk Real world, and the disco-music joke Humor me.
After the nightmarish Over my head, Sentimental journey represents the peak of experimentation where synth music rises among the sounds of breaking pots.
Modern Dance is the musical representation of industrial alienation.

The modern dance of Pere Ubu takes on obscene and dark connotations, its sole purpose is to delve into the human soul to bring to the surface its fears, its delusions, and its perversions.

Their music is both an expression of human resignation and its anxieties but at the same time, it is also anarchic music totally free from tonal schemes.
