Four variations on the theme for a small single with great substance.
To kick things off, naturally, is the version included in "Immersion": a track that has already captured the hearts of the Perth group's supporters, which has been (I was there) and will be for a long time destined to ignite the crowd during their live performances.
If up to this point there's nothing new, following is a "Rob Swire's Drum-step Mix" that is simply explosive: if the beginning mirrors the original, after one minute and forty seconds it's panic. Drum-step is promised and drum-step it is, and the aggression of some parts reminds one of the older production of Pendulum ("Back 2 You", "Voyager").
At the end of the listen, one is surprised and satisfied but can't help but wonder why the group doesn't produce more of this stuff, and why those tracks that most closely resemble the dark and hard atmospheres of their beginnings are relegated to b-sides or even mysteriously deleted (I'm referring to "Ransom", originally planned in "Immersion", then disappeared for barely credible reasons like "the computer on which I saved all the files broke and I don't feel like recreating everything" [Rob Swire]).
Apart from controversies, the third reinterpretation (by Chuckie) can be summed up in a single word: house!
Many of you might turn up your noses, but personally I let myself be captured by the ridiculously flashy combination of TUNZ TUNZ, synthesizers, vocoder, and serpentine bass.
Both John B and Netsky instead move on more tried and tested tracks, offering a drum'n'bass reinterpretation according to their typical style: thus, if the former gives the track energy and drive to make it a potential dance hit, Netsky characterizes his version with relaxing atmospheres: light beats in the background and plenty of piano to forget your problems for 5 minutes...
In short, for the price of a single, you take home a quality EP. An essential purchase if you're a fan of the band (my case), recommended listening if you follow the drum'n'bass scene.
