The tracks of this album flow slow and smooth like an unsettling yet inevitable sunset slipping into our soul, suffocating the still alive warmth of a tired and dying sun.
Beyond our expectations, the night actually reveals itself as a sister, suddenly spreading a black mantle full of stars on our shoulders, gives us a pair of wings, takes us away with her, far away.
The initial storm of "Breakerfall" is a turbulent punk loaded with anger and hysteria, a plea to humanity in the hope that at least love, the only truth of a vile and petty world, is pulled out from the hells of human greed.
"Light Years" catches us unexpectedly, like a strong glow emanating from who knows where; and while Vedder whispers sweet and tender words, an innate desire for happiness springs from our hearts, so we rush to seize it but stumble, fall where "Nothing As It Seems" distracts us for a moment from our foolish illusions.
"Insignificance" is another anthem of anger, another scream against madness and irrationality. Elements that day after day will devour us, one by one, without causing pain, without making us realize, without leaving a way of escape, because it would be too simple.
Yet it seems to glimpse it, seems to perceive it when "Sleight of Hand" intensely filters through our veins, purifying our dirty soul; here it is the weapon with which to face our defeats again, the way to get back on top, the scream with which to make our voice resonate again, like thunder spreading challenging the infinite spaces, beyond the universe.
"Binaural by Pearl Jam is the distant gaze in the astral nebula of the cover, cold and impartial on human miseries."
"An extraordinary warmth, Eddie’s voice ascends and captivates in the eternal farewell to a departed friend (the poignant ballad 'Light Years')."
