Let's start step by step, I want to immediately stand up for the Seattle quintet by saying and emphasizing that in my opinion, this album is very successful.
According to many critics, one of the group's most inferior works, but are we joking, inferior???
The Pearl Jam releasing inferior albums, come on, that's otherworldly stuff. Maybe not like in the early '90s, but still very interesting. "Backspacer" opens with three breathtaking tracks: "Gonna See My Friend", "Got Some", "The Fixer" with that "buona sera" in the lyrics of the first song that I appreciated so much, a taste for melody, pure rock and sweat, and excuse me if at their age they're still doing this stuff.
The album flows beautifully, interspersed with the splendid "Just Breathe" taken directly from Vedder's solo album "Into The Wild," an album I highly recommend even to those not particularly drawn to Pearl Jam. Perhaps the group shows a bit of wear in "Speed Of Sound", a track that honestly didn't completely convince me, but still always valid. For the rest of the album, we are always on great levels.
I know this is a review that won't satisfy the most demanding, but I wrote it on a whim because I don't understand why such an album is being snubbed and criticized so harshly. A great performance by Vedder and his companions, and particularly by Matt Cameron, who is truly outstanding behind the drums. Trust me, the Pearl Jam don't make mistakes, but if you're still looking for "Ten" or "Vitalogy," you're not on the right path; our heroes have decisively changed course for several albums now, but still great, and let's be honest, given the current music scene, they are a true lifeline.
Enjoy...
Backspacer is a well-made album and songs like "Got Some," "The Fixer," and "Force of Nature" will surely go on my mp3.
Beautiful, but no longer exciting... it’s as if PJ decided to always play it safe, offering tracks that don’t move an inch.
"The 36 minutes of the album flow quickly and pleasantly, among successful songs and somewhat anonymous tracks, without provoking symptoms of boredom."
"Backspacer is not bad at all... but one cannot fail to notice that it lacks a bit of freshness... either they are settling, or they are afraid to take risks!"
This is a sincere and unfiltered album, recorded directly, demonstrating that the passion and honesty of this band only increase with the passing of the years.
The gem of Backspacer is undoubtedly Force Of Nature, where the delicate hand of guitarist Mike McCready lays a sonic carpet for Eddie Vedder’s inspired voice.
It’s an album that certainly won’t be accepted by everyone, but it will thrill the longtime fans.
Pearl Jam has changed in clothing, in age but are STILL ANGRY!!
