"A lot of words but no one talking
I don't want no part of that
Something real is what I'm seeking
One clear voice in the wilderness"
These four sentences right now give me the impetus to talk about this album. This album, as I see it, is about facing oneself in the mirror and bringing out everything, or at least what one can, from within oneself.
An Intimist Experience. After successfully traversing two decades and reaching full maturity even in terms of human growth, here is 1993 when Sir. Paul Weller releases an album that serves as a testament and document to the passing of years and, above all, to his own state of mind. The album is perhaps the best of Paul Weller's solo production, even today. An album that musically moves within strictly British territories, starting from Mod influences (Small Faces), Rock (Rolling Stones), passing through the black contaminations of Soul and filtering everything with the importance of acoustic interpretation.
Extremely enjoyable and catchy music with a slightly retro flavor thanks to the precious use of Mellotron and Moog. Sunny and playful songs "Sunflower", "5th Season" with a bluesy flavor and still "The Weaver" and delicate, velvety songs like "Hung up", "Moon your pyjamas".
Songs that only ask to be listened to in their simplicity and immediacy, whether they are engaging, melancholic, or sentimental.
Moods and music that travel together and together provide other sensations and thoughts. Colors, love, tears, introspection... how can music do all this?!?
It can do it easily and this album is proof of that. A must-have and a must-live.
