Once again joined by former Ocean Colour Scene members Craddock and Minghella, Weller pulls out of the hat an extremely well-written, well-produced, and well-played album.
Not that I didn't expect it from that bastard Uncle Paul, but... damn, now that I think about it, I really didn't expect it. As always rich with soul influences and awesomely English, Weller gives his best in the more typically rock songs, which get under your skin from the very first listen, just like the splendid, folk-tinged All On A Misty Morning (which I discovered on my way home, exhausted, by accidentally pressing the shuffle button on my crappy car radio-mp3 player... the good stuff) or the bluesy I Wanna Make It Allright; on the contrary, he loses a bit with the piano and voice ballads... maybe it's the romanticism that depresses me, but those aren't the reason you should buy this piece of spinning plastic.
Bravo, the Modfather.
