I start the review by stating that I've been an avid Beatles fan since I was 6 years old... and I follow McCartney's career in its entirety, while for the other three I stick to the main albums, excluding various DVDs and books... so I am slightly biased.
First of all, I can say that the tracks are well recorded and well equalized: compared to "Memory Almost Full" which had volume issues, this one has been done perfectly... so a small comparison can be made with "Band on the Run" as an example of sonic cleanliness and mix perfection.
Moving on to the "artistic" part, the album is what the title promises: New! There are no tracks that closely recall the Beatles, except for the first single "New" which vaguely recalls "Got to Get You Into My Life" and "Getting Better" composed for the FabFour.
There is a lot of rhythm, many electronic insertions, the voice (aged, but it was already noticeable from the album "Kisses on the Bottom" which is practically all whispered) is often treated with distortion or reverb effects to make it more powerful.
I'm not going through the history of each individual track, because it's unnecessary...but still, it's a good album, it can be listened to effortlessly and doesn't have the heaviness of some of his other albums...
4 well-deserved stars.
