THE REVIEW

Papà: "Son, if someone tells you to jump off a bridge, would you jump?" I've always hated the usual clichés, I find them uneducational. But this one, more than any, certainly not for its originality, has served me a lot in music.

Many believe that the only decent albums by Paul are "Band On The Run" and "Flowers In The Dirt", and that's it. Over the years, in fact over the centuries, it has become a slogan or, better yet, the eleventh commandment. To discover most of a solo artist's career, you have to seize the fateful moment of the "post Big Bang" of a band. Especially if it's about someone who once wrote "Blackbird" and "The Long And Winding Road." At that time, Paul was convinced that with 120 seconds, you could build a small pop operetta. Some, however, have defined them as mere doodles immersed in much confusion. Yet listening to "The Lovely Linda", "Every Night", "Maybe I'm Amazed", there's a doubt that perhaps here lie the solutions to the many tricks McCartney and Lennon used to enchant the whole world. And it doesn't end here, because in tracks like "Hot As Sun", "That Would Be Something", and "Momma Miss America" there's a strong suspicion of his surprising mastery even in country/rock.

Some consider it too hasty a work that will never leave a mark. But there's something unconvincing: why was a track like "Singalong Junk" included in the best film featuring Tom Cruise, "Jerry Maguire"? To tell the truth, it's the instrumental take of the track "Junk", a white pearl, beautiful and perfect like the Beatles' "Michelle." Many people are just discovering it now, certainly Paul's most refined and personal album. A record to listen to exclusively with headphones after a day's work. Others consider it only a jovial and overly bold album. "Son, is it possible that you never listen to the advice of others???" Dad, relax a little and listen to "Junk".

The album feels as if Paul is playing it right in front of you, together with you and just for you.

'Maybe I’m Amazed' is a poignant declaration of love for Linda that would have become a Beatles classic.

The result is a small, cohesive gem, which quietly starts off modestly and, surprisingly, reveals some raw and hidden pearls.

It’s a small work that smells of wood, of small handcrafted work - almost without regard for the audience that is listening.

Return to the beginnings, to simplicity, to the pleasure of playing just for the sake of it.

Unplugged - The Official Bootleg turns out to be a fresh, brilliant, fun, but also relaxed and pleasant record.

A modest start to McCartney’s solo career, marked by intimacy rather than ambition.

It’s not the Beatles, nor does it pretend to be.
