LA RECENSIONE

Pleasure, I am Doom. Psychedelic, spiritual, real.

Paul Chain, the most interesting (and important) figure in the Italian underground scene (and also the most underrated). A guy who has known Lucifer since he was a youngster without horns or hair on his backside, a guy who was dooming in the '80s marking the beginnings of the "real" movement (all this in Pesaro, not in Maryland), who laughed with friends Wino and Dorrian (even though Paolo understands very little English). A guy who fought with angels (he lost an eye in one of these brawls). An artist who knows more about spiritism than Don Nascimiento and a Voodoo master combined. One who can outperform any silly sect in Italy (while singing).

Lee Dorrian defines him as one of the fathers of Doom. Is that not enough for you?
Wino defines him as one of the fathers of Doom. Is that not enough for you?
The Black Sabbath in the '80s copied a guitar riff from him. Is that not enough for you?

Someone who in '77 (at 15 years old) founded the Death SS, the historic group of the "second class for some" scene (but not so much considering they were awarded the best group in '83 by "Mr. Fantasy," a RAI program). Someone working with 10-12 different labels, who has made an enemy of much of the specialized Italian press. Could this be why he’s always stayed where he is?

Lee Dorrian considers him one of the fathers of Doom. Is that not enough for you?
Wino considers him one of the fathers of Doom. Is that not enough for you?
The Black Sabbath in the '80s copied a guitar riff from him. Is that not enough for you?

Paul Chain, someone who chose to remain in the Italian musical sewer rather than emigrate and succeed in America (encouraged by Dorrian) developing a sound that in Italy no one understood (or even knew). Someone who continuously produces a bunch of little bands and more (the first from my fellow townsmen Ojm, who also play on some tracks in "Park Of Reason"). Someone who, if you speak to him, has more to say than the pope has to preach. Artist, sculptor, writer, and even director (but it’s clear that if he doesn't sell records, he doesn’t have the money to make films).

Did I already mention that Lee Dorrian considers him one of the fathers of Doom?
And Wino as well?
And that the Black Sabbath swiped (or rather adapted) one of his guitar riffs, did I tell you?

Before many others, there’s him

...I aaaam...a solituuuuude...maaaaaaann...
