…because I bet that if Paul Buchanan had some spare money, he wouldn't have hesitated to add some more instrumental support to make this already charming "Mid Air" a little more substantial. No, I really can't see him defending the cause of the crooner at all costs, the piano-and-voice-how-great, or striking poses for his super sexy voice. Which it is, and that's enough.
Because Buchanan is the one who wrote "Hats", one of the most precious albums in my collection. So precious precisely because it took years to be understood. So perfect and essential in the sounds that you almost can't believe this "Mid Air": voice and piano for over forty short minutes. And the songs that inevitably all sound alike. It's a pleasant listen, certainly. But Blue Nile fans have always waited long and demanded more. And they have always been rewarded. And with "Mid Air"? Are you satisfied? I, perhaps, am.
With this autumn threatening a very cold winter, this blanket and the voice of good old Paul languidly whispering to me: Ale, don't go out… might be enough for me.
