Albums of 2016 (Part 8)
But seriously, isn't there even ONE review of the Parquet Courts? Not even of Light Up Gold? That's really bad, my basic friends. Who are these New Yorkers on their fourth album? They feed on quirky lo-fi like only Pavement can afford, and then they thrive on repetition à-la The Fall, Velvet Underground, Television. Their career starts from a punk urgency and attitude, ending with this latest album: Human Performance, with thoughtful, anxiety-inducing songs that pound obsessively like a worm in your head. What is Human Performance? It's Wire doing Parquet Courts; essentially and stupidly, that's all there is. I'll leave you the magic of uncovering the Pandora's box of one of the top albums of this year, and if you get a chance, give an ear to the previous ones—they don't mess up a single one.
