A breath of fresh air.
For some time now, there has been nothing but talk about the slow decline of Made in Italy in all its forms, but I am sure this artist will not make you regret the good old days.
I discovered him on a Saturday morning thanks to SentireAscoltare where, in addition to the review, there was a link for the freedownload of the EP (everyone deserves a chance).
Already known in the scene as the bassist of The R's, this is his first solo production. It doesn’t take much to understand how much Lucio Battisti has influenced his musical education: his presence permeates the writing of the lyrics, the vocal harmonies, the bass lines, and the way he addresses various themes in the EP. Paletti embodies and captures our generation, constantly on the edge, with an uncertain future, full of uncertainties, in an excellent way, without neglecting to launch some positive messages within the tracks. If in "Adriana" he says "... it's wise to be light finally after years of ordinary existential torments...", the question he poses in "Tricerebrale" is "... what makes a man a man?". It is the awareness that yes, you need to be light, not take yourself too seriously, but also that man's life is, and will always be accompanied by these questions and, today more than ever, by uncertainty about tomorrow. A form of rebellion against those who take themselves too seriously and those who want to overdo it, we find in "Il Geco", the only song that deviates a bit from the universe of Battisti, where rather than playing along with this system, it compares himself to the lizard that "... lies in the sun and waits...". Very touching is "Raccontami di Te", with lyrics and music embracing in what is the highlight of this song/declaration residing in the chorus: "... I feel I don't know you well enough, please don't leave me here. For years we remained distant, sit and tell me about yourself...". The EP ends with "Alla Mia Età", where there is an interesting parallel with childhood where we all played, fell, believed, but also a return to the present where despite Paletti stating "... I'm afraid of tomorrow, of the mistakes I will make...", the only thing that reassures him is knowing he has his beloved by his side (returning to the opening topic: having a certainty by your side).
There isn't much to add about this great reality of Italian music that bears the name of Paletti, except for the invitation I want to extend to you: on his page, you will find the EP Dominus available for freedownload, download it.
He deserves a chance.
