Now I’m going to say something blasphemous. But in my opinion, it fits. Sometimes, although very rarely, Zorn overdoes it. The result? An interminable pain in the ass. And this album, celebrating his fiftieth birthday, is one of those pains in the ass that you never would expect from someone like him.

Three tracks, two of which ("Your Inviolable Freedoms" and "Dpm") are extremely long and boring free jazz and noise improvisations (quite acceptable) with a bit of crap spread here and there (that finds difficult explanations). It’s like the album vomits sounds; there’s an urge to overdo it, there are many improbable solutions, there is a voice, that of Mike Patton (Faith No More), which needs to be seen in a specific context. In short, there’s a failed album by a great artist, a genius, someone who goes beyond all the avant-garde movements, someone who has almost always surprised us. On the other hand, it's difficult to maintain high levels when recording so many things, when there are so many collaborations, when the desire to experiment is strong, when your name is John Zorn. Sometimes you should stop to think before making an album. And maybe consider doing fewer things, but better.

Ok, having said this, Zorn remains a genius. If you really want to listen to him, buy something else.
