Mea culpa, I admit it. Although I've been listening to similar sounds since the '80s, I had never heard of the Padrini until now. Yet, looking at their bio, we're talking about a band active since 2005, with two albums to their name and tours, despite being from a place that's anything but convenient for a music career (Sardinia), that have taken them to every corner of the country. In short, a band that seems to know what they're doing. Let's start by talking about “Demoni,” an album marking their return to the scene in a discographic way seven years after the previous “Star Wars.” There's no denying it, they seem to have kept the same flair from those years. Their style is melodic punk-rock/hardcore in the mother tongue, which reminds me a lot of the '90s when SunEatsHours, Moravine, Peter Punk, and Pornoriviste were among the reference points (along with Punkreas, of course). Maybe it's that energetic sound, the singer's timbre, or perhaps the energy they manage to convey, but there's no denying it, the tracks by these Padrini seem to work well despite the relentless passage of time. Just listen to “Rondini” (from which a video was also shot) to understand what I'm talking about: an effective chorus, guitar riffs as simple as they are unique in lighting up the fuse in a live setting, and finally, that healthy audacity that every punk-rock band should have in their DNA. These Padrini have fun and make people have fun, a band that plays with a smile on their faces, showing themselves ready to be part of a scene that nowadays seems to have made a comeback.
