Picazzo, the crazy painter! [a.k.a. the man who painted music while listening to the paintings] [23 of 40]
Preview The Pitt Family of Encombe - William Hoare (circa 1707-1792)
"The Pitt Family of Encombe" by William Hoare is an oil on canvas painted between 1707 and 1792, approximately. Hoare was commissioned to paint the prominent political and literary figures of his time. John Pitt of Encombe (1707-1792) came from a long line of nobles from Dorset and Berkshire. This group portrait depicts him with his wife Marcia and their son, William Morton Pitt. The unusual arrangement of Marcia's gown, depicted by the artist, may draw attention to the model's pregnancy. Hoare chose this painting to represent his work at the Society of Artists exhibition in 1761 in London. [source artfund.org]
