Game Changer - Banksy (2020)
Game Changer is a black and white drawing that recently appeared at the University Hospital in Southampton, Southern England.
Measuring about a square meter and framed, the work depicts a child playing with a nurse's toy figurine. With a red cross on its chest, a cape, and a mask on its face, it is preferred by the little one over more popular superheroes like Batman and Spider-Man, who are left in the basket alongside other toys. An explicit and moving tribute to doctors and all staff of the National Health Service (NHS) involved in the fight against the Coronavirus.
In accordance with the hospital's management, the drawing will remain displayed inside the emergency room until next autumn before being auctioned for charity. The work adds to the many already published in recent weeks by artists from around the world in homage to the "superheroes" in white coats: among them, the super-nurse by Dutch street artist FAKE and the more recent Butterfly Rainbow by Damien Hirst.
