Since 2000, we have lived in that whirlwind of retro that has more or less sequentially brought us back to the best decades of rock. However, it is possible to distinguish various phases where one (or more genres simultaneously) dominated the musical landscape (not necessarily the charts). The 90s had a long tail that lasted until around 2002 (probably marked by the release of Is This It), while the 10s can be traced back to the first mixtures of dream/shoegaze/chillwave (2007 Person Pitch) and garage rock/punk that was either more pop (Arctic Monkeys, Bomb The Music Industry) or lo-fi (Ty Segall, Spits).
