Inter, è morto Mario Corso - La Gazzetta dello Sport
Some time ago I was looking back at his goals and statistics... no, not as impressive as one might think. It was a different kind of football, a less structured and “serious” one. Perhaps his fortune was playing in a winning team that will always be remembered... and that team's fortune was having Mariolino. My father, upon returning from Brazil where he had seen all the truly great players, always told me that Corso could have played with them... he was hugely loved by Pelé, in fact. He didn't track back and ran very little. Today, he'd drive anyone crazy, and he probably wouldn’t even play, whereas back then he delighted fans with just one play in a match. A different football, a different everything. Even HH couldn’t stand him, but he had to bow to the creativity that could change a game at any moment. Zero chemistry with the national team's coaches as well. “I shouldn’t have to train like Bedin,” Mariolino would bluntly say. I think about Chino, who instead won nothing, who made me curse but from whom I witnessed a series of goals and plays so beautiful that unfortunately, few will remember... because an emotion is everything, and that’s why I’m definitively distancing myself from football.
Goodbye Mariolino.
