WEEK AT THE BLACK MARKET>>>>>>>>>>>> One of the countless turns that the WR took not only in their production but in the entire mess of jazz, jazz-rock, and fusion in general.... With this track, they boldly introduced a 4/4 rhythm effortlessly played by Pastorius on drums, reminiscent of the then-prevailing disco, a bassline, also by Jaco, that followed the sequencer’s line to a T, proving that even talent can serve the cause, the veristic brushstrokes of shorterian style, and the electronic invasiveness of Zawinul's keyboards laying down carpets over which the other three navigate their paths. Purists had already turned up their noses throughout the entire WR career, even more so when they "dared" to score a chart hit like "Birdland", and when they then heard this album featuring even this track in 4/4, well, that was it, they wrote. They invoked disco and Earth, Wind and Fire, mocking them without knowing what they were writing about.....
