The buying and selling of Roman senators has been going on for time immemorial, and now marble ones are being put up for auction! The Denver Art Museum in Colorado, USA, is auctioning a statue of a Roman senator dating back about 1800 years. The Roman statue was fetched at auction by Sotheby’s for nearly a million dollars. The buyer? An English art dealer who intends to resell it. The work has been part of the museum's collection since 1965, the year it was purchased from a Roman antiquarian. The amount earned from the sale will replenish the museum's coffers and will be reinvested to acquire new works of art.
