Always in the context of things I would save, this is the ending of a short story in "Pulp" style titled: "Two Problems in One Shot". First, a very brief summary. Three criminals pull a job at the house of a rich family. But the heist turns into a bloodbath, leaving several dead on the ground. Forced to flee, they find themselves in a quiet place to discuss what happened. The job was organized by Anthony "Gas Pipe," who now believes he has two problems. Tom "the Toupee" disrespected him during the heist, and he also doesn't want to lose face with Richard "Rubberhead," the third robber. How does he resolve the situation? It's Richard "Rubberhead" who makes it clear:
He shot Tom in the face, then he said to me: I didn’t do it for myself nor against him. What? I replied horrified. Yes, I did it for you. He repeated. What? I said again, incredulous. Him: Yes, for you. So that every time you see me, you'll think I’m capable of shooting someone in the face without a second thought... and you'll respect me. I did it for you, to earn your respect. I have mine, I didn’t have his, and I don’t give a shit anymore; it’s only yours that matters to me, and at this point, I’ll have it.
