In Venice, they call it pantegana; we debesian scientists might refer to it as the rattus rattus of the sewers (?) or norvegicus. I once greeted one that had settled into a corner, before the San Stae bridge, watching the people pass by, curious, taking a breath of fresh air... who knows. Since that time, they haven't scared me or grossed me out anymore; after all, they are clean animals. If they have to live in mud and among rubbish, it's because of their history, which has placed them second among mammals; in the top spot, we humans reside.
