Montreal Biosphère | OpenBuildings The geodesic dome is the only man-made structure that becomes proportionally stronger as its size increases. Montreal, Biosphère (Canada). A geodesic dome is a hemispherical structure made up of a network of beams lying on great circles (geodesics). The geodesics intersect to form triangular elements that lie approximately on the surface of a sphere; the triangles are all very similar to each other, and being rigid, they ensure local robustness, while the geodesics formed by their edges distribute local stresses across the entire structure.
