When I see Ozzy, I feel what Christians, Muslims, or whatever other ridiculous farce is being used as an excuse to kill people and exploit wealth from fools and the weak, probably feel these days when they see images of God or Mohammed (Allah cannot be depicted... naturally there's a risk that by being aware of this information, I might be arrested as a potential Islamic terrorist... BUT IT'S FOR OUR SAFETY, DAMN IT WE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL TO THOSE FUCKING PIGS WHO GOVERN US).
I feel a warm security... if he (along with Lemmy and Keith Richards) is still alive, there's some fucking hope for me to see my grandkids. Clearly, Ozzy is my idol, despite Sharon doing everything to sell his old and flabby ass, and so this latest mockery, the fourth disc of the recent "Prince Of Darkness" box set, already partially a mockery in itself, (I mean, another disc of already released covers with the addition of four unreleased covers) for me is fantastic... but for the average consumer? Assuming they have at least somewhat decent musical tastes (a concept already with blurred edges... is it despicable to listen to Blue or Tiziano Ferro? Damn, of course it is...), will the average consumer benefit from this album?
Fundamentally, it's an extremely gaudy, boisterous album, but fun and, in some cases, also touching ("In My Life" by the Beatles and, especially, "Working Class Hero" by Lennon, where an emotional Ozzy can finally say a F_U_C_K without polluting, already present in Lennon's lyrics... moving...), with some obvious choices ("Sympathy For The Devil", "Sunshine Of Your Love") and some less obvious ones ("For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield and "Good Times" by Eric Burdon...), and an obvious prevalence of the Seventies, Ozzy's golden years, the Sabbath-dream years...
If you're a fan, like me, go for it: nothing transcendental, but pure 100% Ozzy; if you're not a fan... wait and hope that Ozzy's new album includes Zakk in the writing or that they decide to record a new album with Ozzy, Toni, Bill, and Geezer together, in the illusion that it will be like the old times...
