And here I am again, reviewing the great madman (or the prince of darkness if you prefer, or simply Ozzy).
We're at his third solo album, unfortunately for him not in the same vein as the previous ones.
"Bark At The Moon" features Jake E. Lee on guitar, a very skilled guitarist, also quite versatile, technically proficient, but the albums produced with him were really poor, luckily just two, this one and the following "The Ultimate Sin".
Only two songs are worthy of note on this album, "Rock 'N' Roll Rebel" and the title track "Bark At The Moon", which have great driving riffs and also (in the case of the latter) a pretty decent solo.
"Bark At The Moon" is also one of Ozzy's best songs overall.
I know, it's strange to find such a piece on an album that wasn't a hit, but what can you do... that's music, and then I mean, it couldn't be 100% negative.
A not very lively or spirited album, not up to Ozzy's standards, who we know was capable of much more.
I don't know what else to add, except that there is also a catchy ballad (a bit gloomy to be honest) "You're No Different", and that's it! The rest is all just barely satisfactory, if not below.
Rating 2, just because it's him and because I like the aforementioned songs.
To be owned only if you are an Ozzy fan, but just to complete the discography.
"If you really want to purchase this album, buy it on vinyl or look for a used CD... because the original has been out of print since 2002."
"Steer clear of this remastered version... it’s truly an insult to this great album."
"The album immediately takes off with the title track 'Bark At The Moon,' a song of tremendous energy, featuring ingenious riffs and a noteworthy solo."
"In my opinion, it remains a fairly underrated album by critics, deserving to be listened to by every metalhead who is one."
