The independent record label Bar La Muerte has always meant an excellent alternative for me against the now well-known and boring Italian music scene. In this case, they present us with a band that had to struggle a bit to earn their share of the audience, OVO. This musical duo, although following the indie music style, makes their sound original, especially the voice of the multi-instrumentalist singer (she plays violin, guitar, and harmonica) Pedretti, who possesses a sing-songy and hypnotic, as well as heartrending style, giving me the sensation of a girl exalting her primordial and fierce side. Their sound is a slow and haunting sludge, a wicked mixture between Melvins and Sunn O))) with noise and industrial undertones. Extremism and despair in their most occult form expressed in a primordial way, spiced up with a grotesque and psychedelic imagery (a bit also represented by their covers). Dreamlike atmospheres, a beneficial sedative, albeit mixed with suffering and screams. The songs are quite different, for example, highly atmospheric and chilling songs like Mezzanotte, Crash, and 610 Ragazze nella Vasca Rossa are distant from the hardcore ferocity of Hellyeah, which in turn is different from Il Panno Strappato, a fresh but also schizophrenic jazz where Pedretti's violin blends very well with the industrial.
OVO are nothing but a poisonous cocktail, with a rather inviting hue but that can turn out to be fatal, or like a hallucinogenic mushroom that appears defenseless and insignificant in the forest (in this case in the Italian music scene) yet could drive even a bear crazy.
