THE REVIEW

I had written a review of this album, I think the best, fantastic. There was an untimely refresh, and I lost everything, maybe it was fate, maybe the world read it and vomited, and having written it only 10 minutes ago, I try to remember, but the images will never be the same as before:

To write, you need sadness, that kind of sadness that slips between fibrous and spongy limbs and feeds the mind with the darkest thoughts. I, loneliness, and sadness are friends without emotions, we play at depressing each other and being comfortable with ourselves, with no depth limits. My generation believes it has no future, but in truth, we never existed, victims without past, present, and future, we silently endure the collapse of society. We observe helplessly the defeat of equality, we observe helplessly this assisted mass holocaust, we are blind and sightless amorphous masses that silently whirl in the void. I feel as if in that moment of infinity that follows death: no more thoughts, experiences, moments, emotions.

I have often considered Ovlov my favorite band. Am, in hindsight, was an imperfect album, it didn’t need listens, it was immediate, all too much. Its problem was excessive heterogeneity: Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., Weezer, MBV. At the time, I was especially excited by that conclusion that was The Great Alligator in an ecstasy of feedback and wall of sound.
TRU has the merit of being superior despite the lack of an identifying track which to my eyes is anything but negative, I will probably never put a track in my mp3 compilation, but listening to it will be a journey into the most intimate nostalgia, the wall of sound never yields, the J Mascis-like solos are much more alive, and fuzz reigns supreme.
Steve Hartlett has reached an overall maturity really superior to his label mates (Pile permitting) and Ovlov will probably never reach the great public, but they have carved out a really important niche in contemporary alternative rock.

Trivia: a few years ago, Ovlov broke up and this TRU is a kind of collection of unreleased songs, now it seems the band has reunited and will return with new pieces in the future, meanwhile, the side projects (among which stands out the leader's solo project: Stove) are very alive and varied.
