The erotic/sonic investigation of the universe called man, set within scenic notes emerging from crimson velvet drapes, takes an additional step within the exploration of themes dear to the Swedish band. In fact, for their eighth studio work, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio choose to develop a concept centered on the art of masturbation (whether individual or accompanied) through eleven tracks that begin with “Glory To Thee, My Beloved Masturbator” and conclude with “Confessions Of A Sinflower”, just to emphasize that the subject is approached thoroughly.
But if this, in the words and images that accompany the booklet, is certainly the main topic of “Onani [Practice Makes Perfect]” (a topic that everyone is free to explore further or not at their leisure), what I wish to highlight is the amazing songwriting that underpins the songs, because Tomas Pettersson and Rose-Marie Larsen have managed to conceive a wonderful journey into intimate sensuality.
Sounds that are fueled by deeply imbued moods and loves, characterized by a melancholic and clearly cinematic pop feeling, a result of instrumental diversity and a common gracefully lustful mood, whether they are interpreted from a folk perspective (not too apocalyptic, but rather grand in sexual realization) or where forms of soft electronic music seamlessly paired with acoustic and neoclassical scores lead to a satisfying ecstasy.
The work represents, in terms of composition, interpretation, and participation, the moment of maximum splendor for Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, even within a discography that was already of the highest level, which makes its beauty shine even brighter.
