THE REVIEW

The OneMic are back, after that "Sotto la cintura" from about 6 years ago, with this "Commerciale" produced by Doner Music with the musical collaboration of Big Fish and Marco Zangirolami. A work that is certainly mature and considered, but perhaps it could have been refined better and be of a higher quality.

The potential of OneMic is very high; in "Sotto la Cintura" they had demonstrated their ability to write, to deliver punchlines, to be aggressive, and to literally devour every beat they rapped on. In this work, the rap is somewhat simplified, thanks to melodies that are easier on the ear. The beats, mostly produced by Rayden (a member of the group along with Raige and Ensi), contain massive electronic contamination and are often very melodic. What is surprising, in fact, is the strong melodicity of some tracks ("Il mare se ne frega", "Guarda avanti", "Scusami") which makes it clear how OneMic is truly a complete trio.

However, as much as there are good intentions, the quality is not always very high. Tracks like "Mentalità da periferia", "Pioggia RMX", or "Vita, Morte e miracoli" could be avoided in my opinion, since they slightly lower the album's level. The remix of "Pioggia", one of OneMic's best-known tracks, is not bad, but perhaps could have been avoided to make room for another unreleased track.  But, their choices are theirs, as we know.

Musically, as mentioned, the work is very well-curated, giving room to rightly rap rhythms with melodic influences from pianos, strings, and acoustic guitars, but also a lot of electronica, synths, like in the beat by Roofio, in "Vita, Morte e miracoli".

Among the three, in my opinion, Raige stands out, significantly raising the level of many tracks. I would mention in this regard the verse in "Nel D.N.A".", or the track completely written by him, "Il mare se ne frega", dedicated to his mother, but sung only by him in the heartfelt chorus, leaving the verses, which he wrote, to his brother Ensi and Rayden. In fact, the album is written with six hands, which means that some verses were written by the three, together.

In short, I recommend the album to those who love OneMic and those who do not disdain a bit of melody and electronica in rap. An album from which I expected a little more, but they have enormous capabilities, and I am sure they will surprise me with a better work. However, after almost a month from its release, it still plays on my iPod.

Summary by Bot

OneMic returns with their album Commerciale after six years, offering a mature but somewhat simplified rap style infused with melodic electronica. While the trio’s potential and Raige’s contributions stand out, some tracks lower the album’s overall quality. The production displays a well-curated blend of rap rhythms and melodic instruments. Recommended for fans open to melody in rap, though it leaves expectations partially unmet.
