THE REVIEW

OM is the name of the new formation derived from the old rhythm section of the legendary Sleep. On the trails of smoke and dust left by Jerusalem, the Cisneros/Hakius combo redefines the coordinates for a new and even more visionary sound, and to think there were people who thought they were dead and buried.

"Variations on a Theme" is their debut project, an exceptional work for those who draw their daily bread from the most lysergic stoner and uncompromising Doom, yet allowing free space for new sounds and thus also the impossibility of being catalogued under any genre. By listening to it repeatedly, one can reach and perceive desert echoes chilled by shifts of monolithic distorted low notes, enough to remain still, while skins and metals leave no space.

Minimalism. The shamanic voice guides us on this journey to the limits of the surreal. There are only three tracks, but the duration is about a solid 45 minutes of sickly trance.

Bass loops repeated endlessly that never tire, pounding drums that seem to set the pace for about 20 rowers without being annoying.

Don’t worry if you feel like you’re flying through the Grand Canyon—it’s normal, and if you feel like you’ve fallen and severely hurt yourself by crashing to the ground, don’t worry, nothing happened, the record just ended!
