THE REVIEW

Om was the sound that God uttered when He expressed this will: "I am One; I shall become the many." Because indeed, in order to experience Himself, to experience Love, God had to become both lover and beloved. Object and subject, audience and musician, and so on.

Om is the primordial sound, the sound of separation and reunion, it is a bit of everything and nothing, it is full potential. Therefore, they could not help but have a minimal formation, these OM, formed by the bass-vocals/drums duo Cisneros/Hakius. They are the result of the end of the legendary stoner experience known as Sleep, from which, in addition to these OM, the great High on Fire by Matt Pike also emerged.

Conference of the Birds is a hypnotic and spiritual mantra divided into two movements: the first, At Giza, a quarter of an hour where the bass weaves rhythmical melodies of extraordinary impact, a clear and vibrant voice, a drum also very 'plain', without too many frills. We are in a non-place that is a bit psychedelia in its hallucinatory progression, repetitive yet rich in fluent and almost imperceptible changes, but it is also a true mantra in its clear, pure, and ascetic sound, and it is also sludge in its great power which, however, is not randomly thrown on the listener's ears, but is measured: it is pure potential, it is a primordial vibration.
In the second movement, Flight of the Eagle, the sound has taken a step forward, with the bass asserting itself with a truly "full" sound (no adjective describes it better) introducing almost 20 minutes of spiritual, mantra-like, and hallucinatory psychedelia.

A work that perhaps will not please those who appreciate only the power and considered destructiveness of stoner/sludge, but will be loved by all those who seek a psychedelia and spiritualism that go beyond the very concept of rock, even if with some self-quotation and immobility that do not weigh on the final effectiveness. One could say music for the soul, even if it may seem very new age, and to me, New Age seems a brand (especially with capital letters). In any case, put this CD on, relax thoroughly, and feed your soul.
