The Old Man Gloom were born as a side project of the majesty Aaron Turner with the exclusive addition of the dark and circular drumming of drummer Santos Montano. In this 2001 album, the lineup included, besides the aforementioned two, Converge's bassist Nate Newton on guitar and vocals, Caleb Scofield from Cave In on bass, Luke Scarola, and Jay Randall (from grinders Agoraphobic Nosebleed) on electronics... a supergroup indeed!
Electroacoustic and noise drones alternate with true post-core boulders but also psychedelia, flashes of electronics, ambient peek here and there every now and then... another incredible journey... the first song (track is more appropriate!!) is titled "Brain Return To Initial State" and it's a single metallic boom that seems to come from the depths...

Incredible and primitive unfortunately they are almost exclusively a studio band, and it will be difficult to see them live, but the album is truly overwhelming if one can dig into the "chaos" and does not stop at a superficial first listen. "Hot Salvation" and "Desert in your eyes" are the two colossi that rise from such eclecticism.
An obscure difficult obsessive claustrophobic album, I'm sure many will stop after two or three tracks but those who continue listening will discover a mine of treasures...

The new album Christmas has just been released, please, I beg you, let me have it somehow!
Alien music for alien minds? (eh today I overdid it with the performance enhancing substances!)
