LA RECENSIONE

Released just one year after the previous "The Stage Names," this work was initially conceived as its second part, thus forming a double LP.

As in the first one, in this, too, we encounter songs that touch on all the chords dear to singer Will Sheff (author of all the tracks and all the lyrics): from the sense of loss, to travel, to affections, to the relationship with fans, to life on the road, to cinema as the eye and passion through which to "see" life.

Put together, it appears once again as another page of the diary of this lucid and visionary singer, capable of adapting a cultured and complex lexicon to light songs that mostly stick with you.

All of it is full of the usual sound nuances made of violins, strings, trumpets, mandolins, maracas, and more (with nineteen members alternating to complete the album).

"Lost Coastlines" stands tall like a lighthouse throughout the duration of the work, indicating that the path taken is the right one, where Sheff's voice magically alternates with that of the multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Meiburg in an endless melancholy that, placed at the beginning, risks overshadowing the rest of the album.

But there's no danger because then come other "instant classics" like "Starry Stairs" or "On Tour With Zykos," or the carefree pop of (ahem...) "Pop Lie."

Another intense and poetic journey from a band I continue to consider underrated and overlooked for too long. Is it possible they make only me tremble?
