Nine years after its arrival on this site, I feel like revisiting a little gem that is, in its own way, a small classic.
For me, vaporwave is a genre, or rather a subculture, as vast as it is mysterious, touched upon in a manner both sporadic and marginal; yet, I have always been struck by how some of its offshoots are capable of hypnotizing, anesthetizing the mind and transporting it to other worlds - perhaps the phantom liminal spaces?
Released 10 years ago, this album, whose title in Italian is "Nascita di un nuovo giorno," is no exception, indeed it is undoubtedly a vapor-masterpiece. 2814 is the name of the elusive duo of artists behind this project; just as 2814 is perhaps the year depicted on the cover, a true tribute to that Japanese culture and aesthetic with which vaporwave is obsessed. Some sources claim that this album belongs to the Dreampunk genre: never was a label more fitting.
If you come home after an exhausting day and remember this gem, let yourself be transported to a Tokyo illuminated by the cold and subdued light of neon, or perhaps to another futuristic megalopolis, as you walk in the rain at five in the morning in a deserted and surreal scenario that repeats itself in an identical and modular way. Perhaps, as in a dream, instead of walking we will swim, maybe we won't be sleepy because we will already be asleep.
A small classic of Ambient music that I always greatly enjoy revisiting from time to time.
Until next time.

"Phlegmatic and imaginative ambient, psychedelia of the future. A totalizing experience as rarely happens."
"More than the soundtrack of a dream, it is the dream itself."
