We must never take anything for granted, this we all know. However, it can happen that something slips away from us, and then we fall into easily avoidable mistakes. Afterwards, we exclaim surprised: "What the hell did I do?"
I believe every moment of our life should be savored, even through negative experiences, the important thing is to grow and the only thing that can help us is time. Never stop the course of events and life, but someone did, on November 17, 2006, when Oasis released "Stop The Clocks".
What does this mean? Are the songs by the Manchester band capable of stopping time? Absolutely not! They simply turn it around. Certainly it's no coincidence that the best tracks of the Greatest Hits, date back to the early years of the band, but what importance does it have? In the choice of songs, Noel Gallagher snubbed tracks like Stand By Me, Don't Go Away, Gas Panic! and Little By Little, just to name a few, yet they are pieces much loved by fans. Probably more than a greatest hits, it wanted to be a souvenir CD, because just like when you look at a photograph, the date the shot was taken doesn't matter, the important thing is to be in the picture, the important thing was to be there in '94 at the time of the release of "Definitely Maybe". Tracks like "Supersonic", "Live Forever" and "Go Let It Out", global hits, but also "Slide Away", and "Acquiesce", less famous tracks but certainly not of lesser quality.
This album is also a dedication to the many who can no longer stand them, accusing them of selling out in recent years because everything that time seems to have hidden has suddenly been found, cleaned, and brought to light. The album was supposed to contain "Stop The Clocks", the title track that Noel defined as the most beautiful piece he'd composed; what a clown! It is a piece little more than mediocre, then discarded because it was unsuitable for an album of memories.
It matters little if for them it was essential to release a Greatest Hits to free themselves from their record label, it matters little if Noel Gallagher was decidedly against this last request from the major, it matters little if it is mean to pay 21 euros for an LP without any new tracks; it is up to us to decide whether to buy it or not. With "Stop The Clocks," they have stopped the hands of our clock; let's not buy this CD, let time flow, or rather, no! We run the risk of making avoidable mistakes, only to repeat, for the umpteenth time: "What the hell did I do?"
The album's rating is up to you, because a memory cannot correspond to a number, such a cold evaluation, can only correspond to a warm and nostalgic personal interpretation.
Oasis’s music has entered hearts because it talks about how you feel when life is crap.
They might not be fun guys or amazing musicians, but they have reached the hearts of many.
