A foggy Sunday in October, a day like many others, meant to be spent under the covers reading a good book or listening to great music; but no, today is a special day, today I will finally have them a step away, a breath away; I will revel in the splendid riffs of Noel, the unimaginable voice distortions of Liam, the enveloping rhythm of Zak, the accompaniment of Gem, and the sound of Alan. Today is their day, our day…
The arena crowded, The Coral comes in, an excellent band that only makes the already electrifying atmosphere even more so.
Here they are, right on time… blue lights giving a mystical image to the small yet sufficient stage. “Turn Up The Sun” splits the arena in two; people dance, scream, sing… they are finally here… just for me… just for us. It starts with “Lyla” then moves on to “Bring It On Down” and then to the great and unforgettable hits from “Morning Glory” to “Cigarettes And Alcohol” and the unexpected “The Masterplan” and “Song Bird” which make us feel important, a break from the setlist, a dedication to the Italian fans who have always loved and followed them. Beautiful “Live Forever” and “Rock’n’Roll Star” where Zak honors us with a beautiful and adrenaline-fueled solo. “Don’t Look Back In Anger” is a must, where the audience sings the historic chorus accompanied by a splendidly fit Noel. All over? The lights come on, but it is only a technical issue that makes the last song “My Generation” be sung in the daylight. A delirious audience frantically dances to the Oasis rhythm, the Brit-Pop rhythm, the Rock And Roll rhythm. Goodbye…
We walk away disconsolate but satisfied, accompanied by a wonderful “Let It Be” that serves as a bridge to a splendid concert, one of the group's best in Italy. They may be bastards, they may be rude, they may be eclectic, but they are always the best in a music scene now lacking and repetitive.
