Here is the track-by-track account of the splendid live performance by Oasis at the Vox Club in Nonantola (Mo) in the summer of 2002...
...we arrived outside the Vox shortly after 6:30 pm... we stood in line... we got in about an hour later... quite a large hall (it is a nightclub)... in the background of the stage, there was a huge sign: "EXIST," meaning to exist, to live... incredibly hot, we started singing songs like "Don't look back in anger" and "The Hindu Times," but the highlight was when we all sang the national anthem "Inno di Mameli" and then chanted against Korea and referee Moreno... around 8:30 pm, the Soundtrack Of Our Lives opened, a great Swedish rock'n'roll band... and at 9:40 pm, when "Fuckin' in the bushes" started, we knew the long-awaited moment had arrived... and here one by one are all the songs played at the Vox, for one of the concerts that Noel himself described as "one of the best of our career in terms of audience response!"... can you believe that!!!
FUCKIN' IN THE BUSHES --- One of the most thrilling moments of the concert, indeed as soon as the recorded track of the first song from "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants" starts, the crowd went wild, jumping like crazy... banners and English flags began to wave... but they haven't taken the stage yet...
HELLO --- The first real song of the concert, absent from their shows for quite some time, it's the track that opens "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" and live it's as captivating as ever! Beautiful!
THE HINDU TIMES --- The first single from the new album can't be missed, and so off we go with "I get up, when I'm down, I can't swim...", the live chorus is a real anthem ("'Cos God give me a soul and rock'n'roll babe") and Liam is perfect as ever.
HUNG IN A BAD PLACE --- Another track from "Heathen Chemistry," one of the punkish ones presented tonight! Written by guitarist Gem, live it's exceptional, and when Liam during the solo stands at the edge of the stage staring at the crowd with the tambourine on his head, he continues to demonstrate his star-quality, worthy of only the greatest artists!
GO LET IT OUT --- A song from the previous album, live it has an exceptional impact on the audience, who sings it from the first to the last verse! Personally, I haven't lost my voice yet, but I'm getting close...
COLUMBIA --- One of my live favorites, also absent from concerts for quite some time, reintroduced with a different drum start, but still beautiful! To think this song is almost 10 years old and sung by everyone fully demonstrates the validity and greatness of the first album!
MORNING GLORY --- Another song that drives me crazy live... pure rock'n'roll, the chorus is magical ("Weeeell what's the story morning glory weeeell...") and brings us back 7 years when it was released as a single. Great Alan on this song.
STOP CRYING YOUR HEART OUT --- 100% emotion and chills when Gem starts with the piano. "Hold ooon, hold ooon...", Liam starts, and with him all 1700 present! There are even a few lighters lit, making this song one of the gems of tonight's concert! Meanwhile, the heat is getting the better of me, forcing me to leave the crowd and grab a drink... I'll return in the middle of 2-3 songs... I couldn't take it anymore!
LITTLE BY LITTLE --- First break for Liam, who hands the microphone to his brother. A song truly deserving of being included in the setlist, the chorus is sung by everyone present and Noel thanks everyone with a hearty "Grazie Mille" at the end of the song! Third single from the new album.
D'YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? --- One of the most unexpected songs. Taken from the "hated" "Be Here Now" (from the brothers I mean...), it has a very peculiar start, with just the drum for about 40 seconds... then Noel and Gem kick in with chords reminiscent of "Wonderwall," and Liam starts with "Step off the train all alone at dawn, back into the hole..."... among the fans, great joy for the re-introduction of this piece, which will be the only one from "Be Here Now" tonight. Meanwhile, I'm still at the edge of the crowd drinking... I will return to the crowd after the next song! :)
CIGARETTES & ALCOHOL --- Amazing! The riff is unmistakable, and when it starts in the first rows, all hell breaks loose, it seems like a punk concert... but I'm still in the back... and anyway Liam shows he is in fine form with an excellent voice, and Andy shows he knows his way with the bass... but that, he had already proven years before! Immense!
LIVE FOREVER --- One of Oasis's epic tracks, and when Noel announces it, the first t-shirts with John Lennon's portrait start waving. This track is history, music, rock, love, it's everything!!! Great, a truly historic piece!!! Still sung ten years later! "We're gonna live foreveeer!!!"
GAS PANIC! --- Liam announces it and then the electronic base starts. A beautiful ballad written two years ago, during the choruses everyone sings swaying their arms! Emotion! :)
SHE'S ELECTRIC --- A song with quite a humorous text... it hasn't been presented live for about 5-6 years... on the record Liam sings it, but here Noel presents it again... beautiful, but perhaps with Liam, it would have had a different effect on the public.
BORN ON A DIFFERENT CLOUD --- One of the 3 songs written by Liam on the latest album, live it is something unimaginable! On the record, it's absolutely my favorite, but live it's a whole other thing! Exceptional, from the first to the last second, and then the intermediate and final solo give you goosebumps..."It's no surprise to me..."...
BETTER MAN --- The track that struck me the least on the new CD, live it has a nice effect! I recognized it a bit later due to the not-so-perfect acoustics on this song... however a good rock piece written by Liam.
FORCE OF NATURE --- After a pause of about 10 minutes, the electronic base characterizing the start of "Force Of Nature"... presented also in Rome on the 1st of May... after a minute, the band returned to the stage and started this track that reminds me a lot of 70s rock'n'roll... and also here the chorus is a real anthem for the public singing it at the top of their lungs! "Smokin' all my staaaash..."
DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER --- The Oasis's song par excellence. It continues to have an incredible effect live, with Noel leaving all the choruses to the audience and giving everyone goosebumps! Magical! One of the unforgettable moments of the concert.
SOME MIGHT SAY --- When the first notes start, general ecstasy begins. Everyone is exhausted, dying from sweat, dehydrated but still eager to jump and sing! And "Some might say" is the right song. Noel thanks us with a "thanks a lot!"
MY GENERATION --- Noel introduces it as "the last one"... and indeed it is the last! The cover of The Who is played at the top, with Liam and Andy as absolute protagonists, the first with the voice (magnificent) and the second with incredible bass pieces! At the end, Liam greets everyone with a "thank you very much, see you later!" and leaves us with an incredible desire to see them live again soon!
At the end of it all, we leave more satisfied than ever. The band at the peak of their performances, magical rock'n'roll, perfect setlist, historic and new songs in a concert absolutely to remember in every single way!
