The pages of music history are full of young boys who have, often unknowingly, changed something in the world. The Beatles could never have imagined becoming something whose fame and subsequent breakup would lead to such great consequences. As one of them said, they were more famous than Jesus Christ. And neither could Elvis have imagined becoming a sort of God on earth, with such a strong influence on the masses.
Well, far be it from me to make comparisons of any kind or form, probably even those five guys from Compton could never have imagined that their voice could be so influential and that that record, the result of years of anger and abuse, could become a symbol and a manifesto of an entire movement that would explode soon after.
Dj Yella, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, and MC Ren gave life to Straight Outta Compton, one of the greatest masterpieces in Hip-Hop history.
In terms of historical importance, this record is perhaps the most important work ever released by a rapper. There is no Gangsta Rap record that followed that does not find some inspiration from this... This is the record that contains "Gangsta Gangsta," that title track that first highlighted Ice Cube's talent (one who will make quite a name for himself) and Dr. Dre (the greatest, no doubt) and that now legendary "Fuck Tha Police," which would cost the band an investigation by the CIA and FBI and give the group the label of "The most dangerous band on the planet."
Years of anger caused by abuse and racism find an outlet in the violent rhymes of these young guys and the G-Funk bases of Yella and Dre, which would compose a legendary tracklist.
This record is a HUGE piece of history that, in the opinion of the writer, must be known, regardless of one's musical tastes. Even just to get to know something that we Italians fundamentally do not fully understand, and probably (and fortunately) never will.
