Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook producer. Released for Peter Gabriel's Real World. When I see the Real World label on album covers, something stirs within me, prompting me to weigh the CD in my hands. A synonym for other cultures, other sounds; often I have to clear the musical memory circulating in my head and make an effort to listen to these works. I might not feel like it, but I force myself. Always in search of something. The track that opens and gives the album its title, I don’t find it special. The first track that gives the album its title, nothing special. Then from the second piece, something changes. The sounds take over, the arrangements, and the voice is used in a more extended way. Of course, here production plays an important role. The encounter between the master of Qawwali music and Michael Brook creates a blend of fascinating and enchanting ambient sounds. "Sea of Vapours" in my opinion reaches the peak. Listening to the first track, I have to admit that I immediately thought, "here we go, the usual boring Arabic chants". I changed my mind as I continued listening. And I'm glad I didn't give up immediately. Certainly, it does not fall within my favorite musical tastes, but a very good album contaminated with ethnic and electronic music. If it hadn't been for the title track and the final remix of the same by Massive Attack, it would have been better.
