While reading here and there on DeBaser, especially my reviews and related comments, I noticed someone (I don't remember who, but it had to do with Slayer...) reproached me for occasionally listening to something different from the usual slab of sonic heaviness I often carry around. So today I told myself: "Oh yesss!! Let's make this review... this album is a bit happier than usual... and I like it!" I found it on a used CD counter in a store in Bologna, and it intrigued me because it was released by Tigerbeat6 (an Oakland label owned by that crazy brain of KID 606, guru of digital experimentation), and the price finally convinced me: 7 euros. As I was leaving, I also checked the CD: perfect condition, like new, proving that its previous owner didn't care much about this album... I had already heard the name Numbers... I believe the new album will be released under Killrockstars, and from what I've read, it's a bit more "pop." "In My Mind All The Time" is certainly not a masterpiece, but it makes you smile and with its robotic minimalism from Commodore 64 is quite enjoyable to listen to, even for a hopeless doom fan like me: the tracks are very short, about 2 minutes on average; the drummer-singer is super cool, and her singing resembles that of Melt-Banana, but much less schizoid-grind, and much more catchy-cheerful; the little sounds follow each other, chased by Indra's voices for a good half hour, there are also nearly noise-like guitar surges, very rickety and that gladly pair with the micro-beat coming from the Moog (but I repeat, low quality... at times, it seems like a Commodore played by an idiot child...). The last track seems a bit more thought out: keyboards a bit more droning and less minimal duration (4 and a half minutes), but no vocals.
I think this album may appeal to some, or not, and I recommend it to: those who love Kraftwerk, trembling noise, and junk-electronics (like me). I don't recommend it to those expecting experimentation or various rage.
