After four albums, countless concerts, awards, and recognition throughout Tuscany and beyond with the duo Gatti Mézzi, Tommaso Novi makes his recording debut under the name Novi, as the voice and pianist/keyboardist of the acclaimed Pisan duo.
Novi, unlike his travel companion Francesco Bottai, completely abandons the folk/dialectal formula of the Gatti Mézzi to venture into an intimate and emotional singer-songwriter style where his irony turns into a reflection on existence and life, which he claims is "saved" by the virtual and playful dimension of video games. Thus, a song takes the title of his main gaming opponent's nickname ("Paolo Lupo Scuro") with the dictum "Non me lo levate il computer." The entire album reflects in its lyrics the theme of seeking refuge in a nerd world ("Mi sono scavato la casa," "Bacio a frigo aperto").
The timbre and arrangements are sparse and minimal, tinged with a mild electronic vibe with the voice and lyrics in the foreground on a structure often built around the piano ("I tuoi vestiti da Cosplay" being the most successful track in this sense). This makes Tommaso Novi the most credible heir to Lucio Dalla. A complex, emotionally absorbing album destined to endure over time. A pleasant surprise.
