"SECRET": Pure Emotion!!!!
A little step back to remind ourselves or to inform the younger ones about who these NOVECENTO are.
A very active group, officially especially in the '80s, consisting of the two brothers Pino (keyboards) and Lino Nicolosi (guitar) and their sister Rossana (bass) along with the addition of Dora Carofiglio, the singer, who is Lino's wife.
Their first hit is the single "MOVIN'ON" from 1984 (and for those who lived through the '80s, who doesn't remember it?) which previews their first album "NOVECENTO".
In 1986, their second hit emerges, which is the single "EXCESSIVE LOVE", opening doors to their second album "DREAMLAND".
Subsequently, they released albums with less success: "SHINE" (1989), "LEAVING NOW" (1991), "NECESSARY" (1992), and then their only album in Italian, which is "C'E' UN MONDO CHE", from 1997.
And from here, it seems they disappeared entirely, but instead, with the opening of their new recording studio, they start an entirely new phase of collaborations with great artists (including Sting, Randy Crawford, and Billy Cobham) and productions of international jazz artists and those from the soul and funk genres (including Stanley Jordan, Osibisa, Billy Preston).
In 2002, a new CD sees the light: "FEATURING", a collection of jazz and fusion tracks produced by them on other artists' CDs.
In 2003 "DREAMS OF PEACE" was released in the name of Novecento featuring Stanley Jordan, which entered the top rankings of American radio charts.
In 2005, along with Sting, Dominic Miller, Des'ree, and others, Novecento is part of the CD "TOGETHER AS ONE" by Gregg Kofi Brown, former leader of Osibisa.
And then, in the spring of 2008, they decide to release a new single, "CRY", which would later anticipate the brand new CD "SECRET".
The single will preview the sound that the CD will then offer: a beautiful rock ballad, evocative and dreamy with progressive "warm colors"... and you find yourself saying "... hey, but these guys aren't Italian, is this a new group? They're... great" and instead from "Movin'on", you discover that these Novecento have come a long way and know exactly how to write and make music.
The CD opens with their second single "STOP THE TIME", and here's how the song starts, a carpet of evocative keyboards with a burst of thunder to then evoke a classy rock sound, with music and voice at the peak of their artistic level, unusual for an Italian band, an authentic gem of the CD.
The third single "LET ME LOVE YOU" is also released to promote the CD now in Germany, and this CD deserves to go around the world, because it is of great emotional impact.
The CD boasts the collaborations of artists they produced, such as Stanley Jordan (guitarist), Brian Auger (jazz/rock keyboardist), Dominic Miller (guitarist of Sting, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, and others), Manu Katche (drummer for Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Sting, Joe Satriani).
And so it's understandable that it has a high-level rock and pop musical form, with small touches of soul and jazz as in "MY HEART", "LIKE A DREAM" and "TELL ME SOMETHING", and even a moment of Celtic music with the beautiful ballad "MY KNIGHT OF LOVE" (which seems taken from a Pentangle album), and then also influences themselves "Pink Floyd-like" as in "DANGEROUS GAME", and the acoustic and intimate "A SIMPLE WORD" and "TAKE YOUR TIME", and the '70s progressive influences in "SUNDAY" and the instrumental "LATE" which closes the CD, but nevertheless maintains a strictly contemporary sound.
The "unexpected" return to the scene of this great group is a gift for those who love Music with a capital M, and of great class (and what class!!!!!! if only there were more artists like them in Italy) even if POPular.
You can listen to it over and over without ever getting bored, because it's rhythmic and each additional listen is a growth of emotions, because it's sweet.....
