That Emilia Romagna is a sort of "Mecca" of the national alternative scene is well known, especially in the punk-hardcore environment. Yet another confirmation comes from the Modena-based band Nothing I Know, a new school metalcore combo that has managed to go beyond the usual clichés of the genre through impact and well-conceived songs. The work in question is titled "Through," and although it didn't completely convince me on the vocal front, I found it decidedly engaging, if nothing else "live oriented," perhaps the best compliment to give to a band in this sector. Why didn't it convince me vocally? Because the melodic lines placed in the middle of each song don't have the necessary impact to give even more zest to everything, perhaps ending up dulling the combative potential of the band. Yes, because, looking at it, the animalistic growl is something really compelling and perfectly at ease in a sound context that is anything but rosy. The group, although abusing the classic breakdown rhythms, boasts extremely skilled guitarists who give character to every single track, thus going beyond the typical monotony of metalcore productions. Some referential names? I'd start with the flashy Obey The Brave / Hatebreed / First Blood and get to the more "easy" and modern twists like The Ghost Inside. Spot-on production, but fundamentally when producing similar material, it is always easy going to pump the rhythm section and guitars to the maximum.
