After "White Trash..." NOFX achieved worldwide success with "Punk In Drublic" (1994, a play on the phrase "Drink in Dublin"). 40 minutes, 17 songs of overwhelming punk-hardcore where various contaminations are still present. Each track on this album is a small masterpiece, a manifesto of us young people who are fed up, angry, homeless, bored, and indifferent, with irreverent and sharp texts.
The first track (amazing) is an anthem to "Linoleum" ("...linoleum supports my head, gives me something to believe..."), then the equally beautiful "Leave It Alone". "Dig" and "The Cause" continue on the same streak as the first tracks, only to give way to one of the best on the album: "Don't Call Me White", devastating both musically and lyrically ("...Does this mean I have to take such shit for being fairskinned? No!..."). Then a moment of respite with the ballad "My Heart Is Yearning" sung by El Hefe, a respite that lasts very little because it starts again with the very angry "Perfect Government" (cover by Mark Curry) and the iconic Oi!Oi! song "The Brews" ("...cause hey we're the Brews, sportin' anti swastika tattoos Oi!Oi!..."). We're just halfway through the LP and we're already out of breath!!!!! It continues with the instrumental "The Quass" which leads to "Dying Degree," one of the best and most driven tracks on the album, with very sharp guitar riffs. It follows with the more melodic "Fleas," the very fast "Lori Meyers" (with Kim Shattuck of "The Muffs" as singer alongside Fat Mike), and "Jeff Wears Birkenstocks" (truly punk!). This brings us to the inseparable duo composed of the legendary manifesto "Punk Guy" ("...Voted biggest asshole and role model of the year... He'll puke on you, he'll fuck your mom, He'll smoke while huffing gas He was the punkest mother fucker I ever did see, Hell he was even more punk than me!!!") and "Happy Guy" (the happiness of a mediocre guy, with an absolutely must-read text!!). The last two tracks are the most unique of the CD: "Reeko," divided into 2 minutes of ska-reggae and the last part very violent and smashing, and finally the sad "Scavenger Type" (just acoustic guitar and voice).
Certainly the best album by NOFX (inimitable in their genre), and the best punk album of the '90s.
"Punk In Drublic, an anagram of 'Drunk in public,' is certainly what brought Fat Mike and company to international success."
"An album that is still good, with great hits alternating with very negligible tracks and at times filler content."
