LA RECENSIONE

“Sliver,” a spontaneous reduction to a CD from the previous four-disc box set (3 CDs and a DVD) “With the Lights Out,” adds little, almost nothing new to the Nirvana universe.

The three unreleased tracks are intended for the band's true long-time fans. Those who truly love Nirvana, who have appreciated and deeply understood their music from the very beginning, must have this new collection.

The average listener might not enjoy it as it would seem like a mere business maneuver in the record market; the normal listener, in fact, might be, in my opinion, disappointed by the sometimes poor quality (albeit touched up with the aid of digital techniques) of the demos and home jam sessions recorded by Cobain and company.
Surely, this record is for those who know Nirvana not only for the hit singles or the unforgettable MTV Unplugged. The standout track of the album, and perhaps the only rarity that can be found, is the demo of “Come as You Are”, where the sounds that would later be released on “Nevermind” can already be discerned. The acoustic versions of songs sung by Cobain alone, “Opinion,” “Clean Up Before She Comes,” and “Do, Re, Mi” are interesting.

In conclusion, it should be said that the greatest rarity of the CD might be the cover, which depicts a collection of old tapes… the ones from which the box set and now this collection have been extracted. It seems to have been chosen by the adolescent Frances Bean, and the title alludes to the famous single in which little Frances appears.

It remains to be asked, a legitimate question, whether the tapes depicted on the cover have really said everything…

Summary by Bot

Sliver is a pared-down collection from Nirvana’s previous box set With the Lights Out, featuring three unreleased tracks aimed at dedicated fans. The demos and home jams, while of variable quality, hold interest primarily for those deeply familiar with the band. The standout track is the early demo of 'Come as You Are.' Casual listeners may find the collection disappointing, but the nostalgic cover art adds a unique touch.

Tracklist Lyrics

01   Sliver ()

Mom and dad went to a show
They dropped me off at Grandpa Joe's
I kicked and screamed, said please don't go

Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home

Had to eat my dinner there
Mashed potatos and stuff like that
I couldn't chew my meats too good

Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home

She said, well, don't you start your crying
Go outside and ride your bike
That's what I did, I killed my toe

Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home

After dinner, I had ice cream
I fell asleep and watched TV
I woke up in my mother's arms

Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
I wanna be alone

Kiss this, kiss that yeah

You could be my hero

Everyone is waiting
Hit me, hit me yeah
I'm real good at hating

Hey
