Browsing the web, skimming here and there through music chats (on a site purely dedicated to the sale of instruments), I came across the MySpace link of a Neapolitan artist, good-looking, well-groomed, clean-cut face... "must be the usual neomelodic artist..." I thought to myself, and relegated that little browser page to the oblivion of minimizing.

While venturing into the dark woods of online shopping, having almost forgotten about that tiny glowing bar in the abyss of the monitor, suddenly I hear out of nowhere, a distorted guitar... a good crunch riff, scratchy and with a rock flavor. Quite surprised, I proceed carefully with the listening...

The track in question is titled Mai, well-structured and recorded, with pleasant lyrics and a really personal style. You can hear almost all the influences mentioned on the artist's web page, particularly those of Alanis Morrisette and early Elisa. To cut to the chase, we're not looking at a new Battisti, nor will this track change the sorry fate of Italian pop. But the song packs a punch, and quite a big one!

The potential is there and it's clearly audible, and the incisive style of singing and rhythmics provide cohesion to a track that, if it had a bit more airplay, could admirably hold its own against much more renowned artists and authors.

Try it to believe it
