If you are true lovers of pure rock, this album should definitely be for you! Nickelback is undoubtedly a band capable of delivering hard rock that is certainly very modern yet still respects its original characteristics. A powerful album characterized by gritty guitars played with extreme determination and practically without the slightest impurity, yet at the same time able to deliver touching melodies that can move the listener. Also to be appreciated is the distinctive personality of Chad Kroeger's voice, performing the tracks with a decidedly strong yet highly expressive tone.
11 tracks + 3 bonus tracks able to offer consistently aggressive and essential rock without ever falling into bland and repetitive melodies (as can often happen); the songs, in fact, while sharing the same style, are quite different from each other in rhythm, structure and speed, and precisely for this reason, the album does not bore the listener. In fact, it goes from songs with a lively rhythm like "Flat On The Floor", "Another Hole In The Head" and "Believe It Or Not" to songs so hard they even touch on metal sounds such as "Because Of You" and "Throw Yourself Away", and to others that, while maintaining a hard rock sound, reveal the more melodic side of the band like "Someday", "Do This Anymore" and especially "See You At The Show", and there’s even room for the emotional acoustic ballad "Should've Listen".
The only flaws are perhaps the three bonus tracks (among which stands out "Saturday Night Alright (For Fighting)" a cover of Elton John) characterized by arrangements that might be a bit superficial but still fittingly included in the album.
Anyway, it must be said that the album is truly to be appreciated. If you're uncertain about whether to buy the album or not, I recommend settling the doubt and purchasing it. It's really worth it!
Chad Kroeger possesses strong charisma, in addition to an enticing voice like few others out there.
The first single released, Someday, may be less impactful than the previous How You Remind Me, but it is still a respectable song.
