It was May 1, 2003, talking about music... then you can't help but think of Italy's big concert, precisely in Rome. It was the square of St. Giovanni, packed as usual, most there for tourism, others to flirt and smoke a joint together, few for the music. But on stage that evening, a faint organ note would introduce an extraordinary song, and it wasn't even with his 'bad seeds'. He is mister Nick Cave, they are seasoned rockers in pinstripe, the song the open track from the beautiful and underrated 'Nocturama', ladies and gentlemen it's time for 'Wonderful Life', performed that evening with immense passion. Cave pounds on the piano and convinces us, life indeed seems wonderful if the world can still count on dark poets like that man. Slow and psychedelic drums, but ready to turn into acid tribal hits, with Hammond always slithering underneath like a snake. Sure, after 'No more shall we part' it was incredibly difficult to repeat, but 'Nocturama' shines with its own light...
Those who did not love mister Cave after 'Murdered Ballads' should refrain from continuing to read, because I extol this kind of intimate turn. Here 'He Wants You' seems to continue straight from the grooves of the previous masterpiece. You can feel the air of home, blues, gospel, God. Velvety, elegant, same for the following "Right Out of Your Hand" a prayer in music, without words. The tone rises, electricity invades the room with 'Bring it on', but it is with the half-lopsided punk rhythm that the right charge arrives. 'Dead Man in my Bed' will make you dance, make you believe again in the power of narrative, admonitory rock. Sparse organs, rough guitars left to various feedback, fantastic. The hypnotic piano of 'There is a town' brings us back into the dark intimacy of the Australian minstrel, again plunging into the wonderful gloomy atmospheres we so much need... because at the appearance of that slender ray of sunshine, which can sometimes be a music album like this, we realize that we still have the strength to marvel within us. 'She passed by my window', in confidence, some have called 'Nocturama' an album of b-sides, crazy!!! Listen to 'Still in Love', what have you done with your ears...
Finally come the 14 minutes of 'Babe, I'm on fire', and everything is truly in flames, the pure fire of rock manifests from our speakers and burns, God how it burns! I would like to know how many of you, especially in light of the weak 'Dig Lazarus Dig', have reassessed this album after having despised it at the time. Well, there is still time to redeem yourselves, may peace flood your hearts, may the hand of the Lord rest lightly on your soul... life is wonderful.

04 Bring It On (05:22)
This garden that I built for you
That you sit in now and yearn
I will never leave it, dear
I could not bear to return
And find it all untended
With the trees all bended low
This garden is our home, dear
And I got nowhere else to go
So bring it on
Bring it on
Every little tear
Bring it on
Every useless fear
Bring it on
All your shattered dreams
And I’ll scatter them into the sea
Into the sea
The geraniums on your window sill
The carnations, dear, and the daffodil
Well, they’re ordinary flowers
But they long for the light of your touch
And of your trembling will
Ah, you’re trembling still
And I am trembling too
To be perfectly honest I don’t know
Quite what else to do
So bring it on
Bring it on
Every neglected dream
Bring it on
Every little scheme
Bring it on
Every little fear
And I’ll make them disappear
So bring it on, bring it on
Bring it on
Every little thing
Bring it on
Every tiny fear
Bring it on
Every shattered dream
And I’ll scatter them into the sea

Nocturama presents us a more "daytime" Nick Cave than usual.
The excellent Bad Seeds, a band capable of supporting it in the best possible way.
