They formed in Pavia in 2003. In 2004, they recorded their first demo, where post-rock is at its historical peak. And in 2005, they set out to prepare their debut work. They played alongside several already more established bands in the underground scene, both local and beyond, and participated in a festival for emerging groups.
Then, in agreement with ZAHRrecords, they released their first LP, between 2006 and 2007.
The band has partly set aside the influences of their beginnings to make room for the song form, marked by refined melodies often harmonized by a second voice. But the post-rock echoes are still audible, especially in the guitar interplay, the compositions, and the way the instruments are played.
The quality of the tracks is surprising for a debut album. Impeccable. Perhaps it slightly declines towards the end, or, simply, creative ideas and standout moments become less recognizable.
"Ten Little White Monster" is certainly one of the best works of the emerging Italian scene. A blend of indie and post-rock bolstered by the production work of Gianmaria Aprile (guitarist of Ultraviolet Makes Me Sick).
Many tracks stand out for different reasons. "Toothbrush" certainly deserves mention, as it perhaps distances itself the most from the "flock," especially due to the almost psychedelic, hypnotic synth riff that the track is centered around. But also the first of the set, "Late Night Commercial", the melodic "Christmas Monkey", or the poignant "A Gun Is Not The Solution".
The News For Lulu capture our attention without much trouble. This is a great little disc. Truly enjoyable and well-played. Good heavens!
