American rock band formed in New York City in the early 1970s. Original lineup included David Johansen (vocals), Johnny Thunders (guitar), Sylvain Sylvain (guitar), Arthur Kane (bass), and Jerry Nolan (drums). Their 1973 self-titled debut is widely cited as influential on both glam rock and punk.

The original 1970s lineup included members who later died (Johnny Thunders, Arthur Kane, Jerry Nolan). Surviving founding members have reunited in the 2000s and the band released a reunion album in 2006.

The reviews celebrate the New York Dolls' 1973 self-titled debut as a proto-punk/glam classic with strong Rolling Stones and MC5 influences. The band's original lineup (David Johansen, Johnny Thunders, Sylvain Sylvain, Arthur Kane, Jerry Nolan) and theatrical glam presentation are highlighted. Their 2006 reunion album is noted as a successful, enjoyable return.
